2008 FARC Scholarship Winner Announced!

Robert KB3JYR is the proud and happy recipient of the FARC's 21st annual scholarship award. The $1000 scholarship will be put to good use as Robert begins his college career at Shepherd University this Fall. Robert plans to pursue a degree in Political Science, and ultimately attain a law degree. Robert is a recent licensee, a Frederick County resident, and one of the newest members of the Frederick Amateur Radio Club. He plans to continue to build his Ham Radio skills in college, noting that if Shepherd University does not have an active Amateur Radio Club at present, they may have one soon. Robert was selected for the FARC scholarship from a field of well-qualified applicants, a rigorous process administered by the Foundation for Amateur Radio (FAR).

FAR represents about 50 Amateur Radio member organizations in the surrounding MD, DC, VA, WV and PA areas, and each year awards some 58 merit-based scholarships totaling more than $72,000 to Ham Radio hobbyist applicants who are pursuing higher educational goals.

FARC Recognizes Extraordinary Support by Two Local Hams!

Phil W3ICF of Ijamsville, MD, was recognized by the FARC for the generous support he has provided over many years, both to the Club and to the local Ham Radio community. In addition to providing key technical and sweat-equity support for the annual FARC Father's Day Hamfest over many years, Phil singlehandedly rebuilt and maintains the Club's antenna tower trailer. The trailer is a key resource for Ham Radio emergency response work as well as for general use by Frederick-area Hams. Phil is also a principal member of the Frederick Amateur Repeater Group (FARG), which operates wide-coverage and EchoLink repeaters serving the Monocacy Valley area.

Bob N3UHD, of Hagerstown, MD, a senior commercial communications engineer with Business Radio Products in Frederick, was recognized for the many years he has freely made his radio repair and tune-up expertise available to the FARC. Bob has been instrumental in keeping the Club's Ham and public service radio equipment in top shape and on the air.
